Drama plays an important role in St. Gerard’s School.
We recognise, in the words of educationalist Sir Ken Robinson, ‘that if our goal is to educate the whole being, then this can only come about by the interaction of different disciplinary ways of seeing and experiencing things.’
Through this particular course of study, incorporating improvisation, role-play, characterisation and script work we work towards building each individual student’s sense of confidence and creative self-belief, in the knowledge that these resources are the essence of a rounded individual.
Technology alone is not enough - it’s technology married with the liberal arts and humanities, that yields us with the results that make our heart sing.

The Drama training course is divided into three sections. Introductory, Intermediate and Senior, covering all years from First to Six. These groups present at least two productions a year and have to date a huge repertoire ranging from the classics to contemporary works. These plays have been presented to students and parents alike, fostering a sense of support and celebration in each student’s skill whether it be on or off stage, writing or adapting or in perfecting technical or production values.
We have also been involved in Drama Competitions over the years with great success. 2016 has been no exception as The Senior Group celebrate their huge success with their production of ‘Hospital Food’ by Eugene O’Hare in The Bray One Act Drama Festival and St. Andrew’s Drama Festival where, on both occasions, they picked up Best Actor, male and female , Best Supporting Female Actor, Best Set Design, Best Production and Best director.
