Transition Year Musical

In this Section

The Transition Year Musical, has been considered by many students to be one of the highlights of the year. It is a unique part of the year, as the students are not split into classes or groups, but rather all work on one project together.

The musical itself is produced by the school, but the production team; including the directors, designers and stage managers, as well as the musicians who play at the show itself, are all professionals, brought in to give the students a rare real life experience of  musical theatre in Ireland.

Some students have gone on to work professionally in the business themselves, as a result of this opportunity.

Though the majority of the students will be on the stage, in a variety of leading, supporting and choral roles, other students have the chance to aid the lighting, sound and stage technicians.

Above all, the comradery and support system among the students, established by the Transition Year musical is what has made the project a success, a credit to the school, and to the Transition Year system itself.

The total amount of time involved in producing the musical from the audition stage to the final performance is 6 weeks causing the minimum disruption possible to other activities.

Musicals to date include "Grease",  "Les Miserables", " Joseph",  "Fiddler on the Roof" and many more of the Rodgers and Hammerstein repertoire over the production years.
