Monthly News - April 2006 SENIOR
CUP TEAM
Well done to the Senior Cup Team on reaching the Semi Final
of the Plate where they met a very strong, well drilled Clongowes side and were
defeated 34-10. The score does not reflect their performance. It is important
for this group to stay together, work together and become a stronger unit as they
move up through the school. Well done and many thanks to the coaching staff of
Mr. Shaun McCarthy and Damian Hall.
SENIOR 2nd's
Well done to the Senior 2nds in a superb performance in the semi final of the
League. They were most unfortunate to lose 11-6 to Belvedere on Saturday morning,
but put up a spirited and a strong challenge. This is the largest squad in the
school and it is very encouraging to see so many of the 4th, 5th and 6th years
compete for places throughout the competition and to field a team still playing
in April. Many thanks to Mr. Seamus Jennings, Mr. Ciaran Vance and Mr. Mark Doyle
for the work they put into the squad during the season. It was a great effort.
Well done to all.
DEBATING - FIRST IN IRELAND
Many congratulations to Dearbhail O'Crowley (4th Year) on being the outright
winner of the AIB Phil Speaks National Debating Competition in Trinity
College on Tuesday 5th April. This is an outstanding achievement for Dearbhail
and for the school. Gavin Fullam (6th Year) won this highly prestigious prize
last year and it reflects exceptionally well in the school and on debating in
the school.
Congratulations also to Rebecca Winkworth (5th Year) who
also reached the grand final of the competition last night and reached the top
eight. Jonathan Hozier-Byrne (5th Year) also reached the final and was
placed in the top thirty nationally.
Well done to Ben Blunnie of 2nd
Year who reached the grand final of the Junior Section and was placed in the top
eight in Ireland. Another remarkable achievement.
Many thanks on your behalf
and on the school's behalf to Ms. Cathy McKean and Ms. Paula Claffey, for all
the work and support they have given to the above students.
BRAY
LIONS DEBATE
Congratulations to the
team of Dearbhail O'Crowley (Captain), David Bourke and Lindsay McGinn on progressing
to the Semi Final of the Bray Lions Debate. They successfully proposed the motion
that "This house would punish parents for the crimes of their children" against
Pres. Bray. Many thanks to Ms. Paula Claffey and Ms. Cathy McKean for facilitating
and supporting the Debate.
ARCHERY
Well
done to Harry Lyster of 6th Year on obtaining 1st place in the National Irish
Field Championships.
