RUGBY SEVENS TOURNAMENT (28th February 2008)
St.
Gerard’s School 19 - St. Richard’s School 0
Having
won two and lost two games in the pool stages, the St. Gerard’s
Squad qualified for the semi finals of the Plate competition
as best 3rd place team. Our opponents in the semi final were
St. Mary’s Hall, traditionally one of the strongest
teams in the competition. In a dramatic match, a last minute
try from Nathan Buckley, converted by David Baker won the
game for St. Gerard’s 19-12.
St.
Richard’s were our opponents in the Final. St. Gerard’s
displayed remarkable composure to produce their best performance
of the tournament. Tries from Fergal Smith, Nathan Buckley
and Oisin Denvir, two of which were converted by the Captain,
David Baker, saw St. Gerard’s run out 19-0 winners.
Well done to the B’s who finished 4th in their group.
A
great achievement. Well done to all involved.
Many
thanks to Ken Jolly, Paul O’Connor and Eoin Toolan.
JUNIOR
CUP TEAM – Quarter Final (18th February 2008)
St.
Gerard’s 5 - Gonzaga 8
Congratulations
to Gonzaga College on reaching the semi-finals of the Cup
and we wish them every success in that fixture.
On
this occasion the team played all of the rugby for 68 minutes
but did not win. Such is sport. Once again, the Junior Cup
Team played with admirable spirit and tenacity but it was
not enough to overcome the stronger Gonzaga side.
This
has been a great Cup run for this group as well as an excellent
learning environment.
We
wish the Junior Cup Team well in the semi final of the Father
Godfrey Cup and in the Plate Competition.

JUNIOR
CUP TEAM (1st February 2008)
ST.
GERARD’S SCHOOL 5 NEWBRIDGE COLLEGE 5
An
epic contest on Wednesday between two well matched teams resulted
in a five all draw with the replay taking place on Monday
February 4th. Neither side deserved to lose this game and
we can look forward to another tight contest next Monday.
This is an excellent Junior Cup Team and they have worked
very hard anddeserve the support of the whole school community.
I
know that the amount of supporters and the quality of support
will be even better on Monday next.
Girls
Hockey – Junior 2nds LEINSTER LEAGUE FINAL (27th February
2008)
Many
congratulations to the Junior 2nd Hockey Team on reaching
the Leinster Final on Tuesday last against Mount Anville.
This team has played exceptionally well throughout the season
and has given some wonderful performances in reaching the
final.
Congratulations
to Mount Anville on winning the final 2-0 but the result does
not in any reflect the performance of this team.
I
congratulate the team on their performances during the year
and their commitment to their hockey all season. A special
word of thanks to Ms. Eimear O’Regan for her coaching
and commitment to the team.
Well
done to all involved.
1st
Year A – Girls Hockey (6th February 2008)
St
Gerards 2 - Foxrock 3
Commiserations
to First A hockey team who lost 3-2 in a very exciting Leinster
Quarter Final.
The
team played extremely well and it was a great display of hockey.
The two teams were very evenly matched and were very unfortunate
to go out of the competition at this stage. Vanessa Looby
and Claire Foley scoring fantastic goals but unfortunately
Foxrock stole a goal at the end.
This
is an up and coming team who will do very well in the future.

a wonderful opportunity to meet, greet and listen to the wonderful
talent of the students of St. Andrew’s Scots School.
We

SOUTH
PACIFIC (18th February 2008)
Congratulations
and well done to all of the Transition Year students on their
wonderful performance of South Pacific the week before half
term. The two evening performances aligned with the two Matinees
were really well received by all audiences.
A
special word of thanks to our producer, Jacqui Olohan and
to Ashling Doyle, the Show’s choreographer.
