Scientist Competition 2010 (19/01/10) Many
Congratulations to the 3 Projects which represented St Gerard’s School in
the Young Scientist Competition last week. The
Judging Panel were highly complementary of all of the projects and I thank the
students and their teachers for the trojan work over the last number of weeks
in the preparation of these projects. The
following Projects participated in the Young Scientist Exhibition: 1.
Physical, Chemical & Mathematical Sciences Garreth Byrne
Category: Junior, individual Project: The great St. Gerard’s dust buster
Result: Equal 3rd Place 2.
Technology Aran Spencer-Higgins, Sean Thomas Category: Junior
Group Project: Gahim, website builder Result: Highly Commended 3.
Social & Behavioural Sciences Neil Counihan, Alan Smith, Declan
Keaney Category: Intermediate Group Project: Prevention is the cure, skin
cancer, the risks, do we care also took part at Intermediate level in the
Social and Behavioral Sciences Many
thanks and congratulations to the Science Department for the continued encouragement
of all of the students under their care. The Young Scientist Exhibition continues
to be the premier students exhibition in Ireland – it is a competition which
all science students should aspire to. 1st
Year Girls Hockey (22/01/10) Many
congratulations to the 1st Year Hockey Team on their tremendous success in reaching
the Leinster Quarter Finals after their powerful win over Mount Temple School
(winning 7-0 on Tuesday). Congratulations
to the squad and to their coaches, Ms Eimear O’Regan & Ms Etaoin Donovan, on their
success to date and we look forward to the quarter final with great anticipation. Senior
Hockey Team Cup Win (19/01/10) Leinster
Senior Cup 1st Round St Gerards’s School

congratulations to the Senior Hockey Team on an excellent performance on Saturday
against The Teresians School. The 4-0 win does not reflect the superiority of
our side. This is but the first step on a long journey and one in which the challenges
will be far greater. Many thanks to coaches Ms Cathy McKean & Ms Sarah Scott.

International
Skiing Representatives (25/01/10) Sean
Murray & Kyle McCarthy (1st Years)
Many congratulations to Sean & Kyle who will be representing Ireland in Skiing
at the Children's Borrufa Cup which will be held in Ordino-Arcalis, Andorra from
23rd to 30th January 2010. The
event attracts about 25 teams from all over the world to compete in slalom, giant
slalom and the combined event. The team's head coach is Shane O'Connor who himself
has been selected to race for Ireland in the forthcoming Winter Olympics to be
held in Whistler, Canada in February this year. The best of luck to Sean & Kyle.

Senior Rugby League Final (25/1/2010) St
Gerard’s School 14 The Kings Hospital 13 This
remarkable victory marks a watershed in the history of sport in St Gerard’s School.
The Spirit, Determination, Mindset & Skill showed yesterday is the new expectation
of all teams from St Gerard's 3rd to 6th Year in all codes of sport in the school.
We congratulate the Senior Squad and their management on an outstanding performance.
