Well
done to our Junior Hockey team on an excellent 2-0 win over
St. Joseph of Cluny. They now meet Our Lady’s, Terenure,
on Monday March 5th in the next round. Goals from Sheena Walker
and Fiona Kelly fuelled the victory and the team as always
ably led by Madison Duffy.
Once
again, the score reflected an excellent performance by the
entire squad. Well done to Ken Jolly, Sarah Scott for preparing
the team so well.

DOLLAR
ACADEMY (Scotland) 5 - ST. GERARD’S SCHOOL 1
The
School were delighted to host Dollar Academy Senior Girls
Hockey Squad over the last four days.
Dollar
Academy were defeated by Loreto Foxrock, successful against
Loreto Dalkey and yesterday gave an excellent display to defeat
our Senior Girls 5-1.
This
marks the end of the season for the Senior Girls Hockey Squad
and we thank them for their leadership and the example they
have given to all the other teams in the school.
A
special word of thanks to the parents who so kindly hosted
the Dollar Academy visitors since Sunday.
Under
13 Rugby Tour to England. (6th March 07)
The
Under 13 Rugby Squad had a very enjoyable weekend tour to
London where they were hosted by the Oratory School and participated
well in the Annual Under 13 Seven-a-Side Competition. The
weather was atrocious and as a result the Competition was
shortened to three games per team. Both teams performed admirably
and were unlucky to be narrowly defeated by the eventual winners.
Many
thanks to Mr. Ken Jolly for organising the tour and to Mr.
Rory O’Connor and Mr. EoinToolan for accompanying and
facilitating the experience for the squad.
JCT

in atrocious conditions highlighting once again the potential
of the Squad.
We
wish them every success in the next round against Clongowes
Wood College on Wednesday in Clongowes.
UNDER

St.
Gerard’s 14 – Gonzaga 10
Sincere
congratulations to the Under 14 Rugby Team on their tremendous
win in the League Final yesterday. Not alone did they win
this year’s League but they also won the Under 13 Central
League last year.
This
back-to-back success shows the true talent in this group.
The way in which they defended their line over the last ten
minute period of the game also shows the spirit and depth
of character which this team possess.
Many
thanks to the Head Coach, Rory O’Connor, for the tremendous
work he has done with this group throughout the years and
to Jason Kinsella for assisting him. We look forward with
great confidence in this group as they move on to the Junior
Cup team next year.
Well
done to all involved and to the supporters in 2nd Year for
the wonderful lift they gave the team during the game.

Hot
Press Literary Award (14 Mar 07)
Many
congratulations to Caelainn Hogan of 6th Year who won the
Leinster Award (1st place) in the recent Hot Press Literary
Competition. Her article is published in this month’s
magazine. There were four regional winners from a huge number
of entrants. Thank you to Mr. Eamon Carr who facilitated the
opportunity for Caelainn.
All
students should be encouraged by Caelainn’s success
and should not hesitate in any way to enter all competitions
in the literary sector in all languages.
As
they say, if you are not in, you cannot win.
Well done, Caelainn.

Well
done to the team of Daniel Cooney and Theo Jebb (3RD Year)
who participated in the Junior Schools Departing Competition
final on Tuesday night in UCD. This was a superb debate with
very high standards achieved by all schools. Both Daniel and
Theo were lauded for the quality of their debating skills.
AIB
JUNIOR SCHOOLS DEBATING COMPETITION (14th Mar 2007)
Commiserations
to Ben Blunnie of 3rd Year who, unfortunately, didn’t
get a place in the Final of the Leinster Junior Schools Debating

that he will have greater successes as he moves through the
school. Well done.

TRANSITION
YEAR MUSICAL SUCCESS! (19 Mar 07)
OKLAHOMA.
Welcome
back to the Transition Year students today who have been away
on two weeks Work Experience and a week in Gartan, Co. Donegal.
I
would like to take this opportunity to congratulation the
Transition Year students on their performance of Oklahoma
before they departed for Gartan before the mid term break.
The
excellent matinees were followed by two superb shows on the
Wednesday and Thursday nights. There is great quality and
depth in this Year Group and again the musical talent for
which this group have become renowned came to the fore with
all of the leads excelling as well as the whole supporting
cast.
There
are many benefits for showcasing a musical such as Oklahoma.
The students themselves are aware of the way in which they
grew as a group over the weeks of the show.
A
special word of thanks to Ms. Jackie Olohan for her amazing
production of the show.
