Model
United Nations – St. Andrews College (22nd April 2009)
Many
Congratulations to the Following students who participated
in the St Andrew’s MUN for 4 days over the Easter break.
Daniel
Cooney, Ben Blunnie, Fiona Kelly, Niall McLoughlin, Isabella
Spencer-Higgins, Hilary Repko and Megan Fox.
Resolutions
were debated concerning Politics, Human Rights, The Environment,
Disarmament, Health as well as Youth Issues with over a thousand
other delegates throughout Ireland and from all over the world.
This
group of students worked extremely hard and made a huge effort
to debate in front of a very large audience.
Many
thanks to Ms Jenifer Halford for facilitating the opportunity
for the students and giving her time to this prestigious event.
UVC
Young Social Innovators (22nd April 2009)
Congratulations
to the Transition Year Students who took part in the
Young Social Innovators and who are invited to the All Ireland
Showcase in the RDS to perform the “ Speak Out ”
play which they performed at local level.
Amnesty
International Friendship Day (22nd April 2009)
Many
congratulations to the students of 5th Year on gathering €214.00
for presentation to Amnesty International through their Friendship
Day.
Medjugorje
Tour 2009 (22nd April 2009)
Twenty
Eighty 5th Year Students accompanied by Mr Seamus Jennings,
Ms Niamh Alymer and Mr Ben Armstrong travelled to Mediugorie
for a full week’s pilgrimage during the Easter holidays.
This is the 3rd year of the Medjugorje pilgrimages once again
it was an outstanding success.
Many
congratulations to all of the students on reaching out to
the new experiences and on their excellent behaviour as ambassadors
for the school.
Once
again, many thanks to Mr Seamus Jennings for all of the work
in organising and preparing the tour and to Ms Alymer and
Mr Armstrong for facilitating this wonderful and unique experience
for the students.
Winners
of I.S.T.A. Junior Science Quiz (30th April 2009)
Congratulations
to the St. Gerard’s Junior Science Team, Paraic Behan,
John Byrne and Neil Counihan on winning the I.S.T.A. Junior
Science Quiz. The team defeated 18 others in a hotley contested
quiz yesterday.

for all of the work in organising and preparing the students.
St
Gerard’s Tennis News (18th May 2009)
Well
done to all of the Students who competed for the St Gerard’s
Tennis Team in our annual fixture against Greystones Tennis
Club. Spirits were high despite the poor weather conditions
and Greystones won this important Tennis Fixture by 8 matches
to 6 matches.
Special
thanks to Mr Rory O’Connor and Mr Shaun Mc Carthy for
their help in running this competition.
Senior
Family Tennis Tournament 2009 (6th May 2009)
Congratulations
to Sam (TY) and David Gilmore on winning the Family Tennis
Event. They defeated Jamie (3rd Year) and Fergus Murphy in
a very high quality final.
Also
well done to all the competitors who took part and made for
another exciting tournament.
Summer
Concert 2009 (6th May 2009)
Well
done to all on an outstanding performance. The evening was
a wonderful mix of Song, Dance, Music and Entertainment.
A
huge thanks and sincere gratitude to Ms Diane Owens, Ms Jackie
Olohan,
Ms Paula Hillman for their tireless work with the Senior School
Students.
Well
done to all of the performers on your talent and performance.
This was a fabulous way to mark 90 Years of Education in St
Gerard’s School.

Triple Drama Feature Cluedo
• An Actor’s Nightmare
• The Exam
Many
congratulations to all of the students who participated so
magnificently well in the above Triple Feature One Act Plays,
over three performances.
Each
One Act Play was unique in itself. The quality of individual
and collective performance was outstanding.
All
audiences were treated to excellence at the highest level
and it was self-evident why Cluedo won St. Andrew’s
Art Festival for Best Play, Best Director and Best Custom
and Design.
A
sincere thanks is due to Ms. Eithne Carney for the professionalism
and quality of all of the performance.
A
special word of thanks also to all of the background team
who enhanced the show wonderfully well.

Entrance Scholarship (20th May 2009)
Jordan
Egan (Rugby)
Many
congratulations to Jordan Egan 6th Year who has been awarded
Entrance Rugby Scholarship to UCD.
Jordan
is most deserving of this award and follows Gareth Crotty,
Cailbhe Doherty & Kyle Tonetti who have been awarded Rugby
Scholarships to
UCD & TCD respectively over the last 3 Years.
