Gerards Day
On Tuesday, October 18th we celebrated St. Gerard’s Day
Mass as a whole school community. It was an excellent occasion, greatly enhanced
by the positive participation of all of the students and the readers, the choir
and in particularly the excellence of the Homily given by Father Mulligan. Forgiveness
was the theme of our Mass and in his Homily, Father Mulligan highlighted that
it is through forgiveness that we show a greatness of heart.
I would like
to take a few quotations from the various readings from our Mass and I would like
you to reflect on them:
“Cease to do evil” (Isaiah). Learn to do good. Search
for justice. Help the oppressed”
“Always be thankful”.
Well done to each
and everyone of you who contributed in any to St. Gerard’s Day in making it a
very special occasion. I applaud the way everybody adapted when the Sugarloaf
Race was postponed. I hope that we can have this race or certainly climb the mountain
during the final term.
Visit of Brian O'Driscoll & Denis Hickie
Last Friday afternoon was a memorable occasion for the Senior and Junior School
with the visit of Brian O’Driscoll, British and Irish Lions Captain and his fellow
British and Irish Lions player, Denis Hickie.
Everybody involved in sport
in the school should gain confidence from the fact that Brian himself said that
when he was in school he was sub Scrum Half for the JCT and in his 5th Year was
dropped for the semi final of the SCT. Brian started as a scrum half and played
in all positions in the backs as a school-boy prior to finishing up as one of
the world’s greatest centres. Everybody should take hope and encouragement from
his story.
