Junior School
Standard 4 have been accepted to present a project at the RDS Primary Science Fair in the beginning of January.
The name of the project is, Paper Towels in Our School: How to reduce usage and successfully dispose of them. The class settled on this project after noticing that the majority of waste in our class bins came from paper towels used for drying hands.
Over the past weeks, the class have been brainstorming and conducting research. On November 19th we held a research day to complete our investigations. After analysing the data they have collected, the class have settled upon some practical ways to reduce the amount of towels used after each hand wash. Also, after much investigation, we found that composting is the best way to dispose of the bulk of used towels.
However, by thinking creatively we have also come up with the idea of making fire logs and Papier Máché paste for craft class with them.
Applying what they learned on the research day, the class decided that we needed to design a hygienic and efficient way of collecting used towels. This design and make section of the project is a work in progress but we have come up with some interesting blueprints.
This is a very exciting time for the class and everyone has benefited greatly from learning through inquiry. Now we are all looking forward to the fun and creativity of the final presentation stage of the project.
