The BT Young Scientist is an annual science competition which takes place in the Royal Dublin Society (RDS) each January. The competition is open to all secondary school students from 12-18 years old.
Students can enter projects into one of four categories: biological and ecological, social and behavioral science, chemical, physical and mathematical science and technology. Within each category there are junior, intermediate and senior groups with prizes for each age group and category. Every year St.Gerard's enters projects into this prestigious competition and gain successful acceptance into the exhibition.
Every January our 1st and 4th year students attend the BT Young Science to support their fellow students in the competition and gain a better understanding of what is involved in developing a project for the competition. This therefore encourages students to develop an idea or project for the following years competition. Successful students then present their projects to their classmates when they return to school after the competition, to give a better understand of what is involved in developing a project from its infancy to presenting the project on a grand stage to the judges.
