Green Schools

In this Section

St. Gerard’s School students have been working on environmental issues for several years now and have been formally participating in the An Taisce Green Schools Programme for the last 8 years.

We have now put in place and implemented formal action plans for litter and waste, energy, water and travel programmes. We have successfully achieved green school flag awards for those programmes and are currently working on our biodiversity action plan.

The School has a very active Green Schools Committee who meet on a regular basis and who are constantly monitoring all of our present and previous programmes to maintain and enhance green school flag standards. Committee members include students from all years 1st Year to 6th Year. The Green Schools Committee believe that these programmes and also curricular work in several subject areas has contributed to St. Gerard’s School students having  a good understanding of responsible environmental practice in their everyday lives both inside and outside of School.

St. Gerard’s School has a truly beautiful school campus and the Green Schools Committee hope to contribute towards  maintaining that. We also like to think that we contribute to all school students leaving St. Gerard’s School with an outlook of sustainable and prudent use of the earth's precious resources and well equipped to act as responsible citizens and to be able to make informed and appropriate judgement on environmental issues.
