Games is an integral and compulsory part of school life in St. Gerard’s. Each child from Standard 3 to 6 participates in three hours of games each week along with many mid-week and Saturday matches in rugby and hockey.
All after-school sessions are coached by professional, highly motivated and skilled coaches. Indeed, the pupils have the privilege of being coached by some of the top coaches in the country. In the Junior School, the emphasis in games and sports is on participation and enjoyment but in saying this we also enjoy a good competition!
While hockey and rugby are the main school sports, many other sporting activities are enjoyed – particularly during the Summer term – including tennis, rounders, cricket, touch rugby and athletics, swimming, cross country, and soccer. The pupils also enter competitions in sailing and golf and the list continues to grow!
We ask that parents support our games policy by encouraging positive team spirit at all times and by ensuring that children have the correct games equipment and gum shields at all times.
Overall, games and sport play a huge and very important role in St. Gerard’s school life and contribute much to each pupils’ physical, social and personal development. Finally, children will be treated with respect at all times by their coaches and are expected, in return, to behave responsibly towards other children and staff.
