Tennis

In this Section

St. Gerard’s has a long-standing and successful tradition in tennis,  it is hoped the school will build on this success and indeed plans have been set in place in order to promote the game to higher levels in the Junior  School.

At present the school has 6 hard tennis courts, all of which are floodlit. In the summer term we will also convert our astro-turf pitch into a further 8 tennis courts.

One of the highlights of the school year is the Family Tennis competition, which takes place in the middle of May every year. Here different combinations of pupils/sibling or pupil/parent compete for a coveted trophy.

Extra curricular tennis is offered to children from Junior infants to Std 6, one lunch time per week. John Brady from Wicklow Tennis club runs these lessons and all the pupils really enjoy the 20 lessons offered throughout the school year.

Tennis is a big part of summer games with std 6 boys and girls playing in an in-house championship to claim the title of Tennis Player of the Year. We also enter into the Leinster Tennis league in Std. 6 as well as the A.I.J.S. tennis competition in both singles and doubles.
