Golf in St. Gerard’s School is played at both Senior level (under 18), and Junior level (under 16). Both teams compete in the All Ireland Schools Strokeplay Championships every year, where they must qualify out of their section within Leinster. If successful from here, the pupils can go on and represent the school in the knock-out stages of the competition. This can ultimately result in competing against the top schools in the country.
The Senior squad also compete in the Irish schools Match Play Championships. Success in this competition requires the squad to qualify out of their group, and going on to the knockout stages. This process can also result in going on to play the best school in the country in the National knockout stages. The progress of our golf teams can be followed through the results section of the Sports website.
Golf is also enjoyed in the school on a social level, albeit with some competition.. The annual Parent and Child Competition takes place in September, and has been running in Dun Laoghaire Golf Club since 2013. This proves to be a very enjoyable event in the school’s social calendar. Pairings play in a fourball, better ball off full handicaps.
The Parents’ Association also run a very successful golf outing during the summer term as a fundraiser for local charities. This is always well supported by the parent body, and is again a very enjoyable event in the social calendar. Information of this event is always sent out by the Parents’ Association well in advance of the event.
