Sailing

In this Section
There is a long history of sailing in the school and over the years past pupils have gone on to compete at National, International and even Olympic level. The school has close relationships with a number of local clubs, in particular Greystones Sailing Club which kindly hosts our Annual Regatta every May.

There are three main events for the sailing teams during the season. September sees as many as three teams travel to Sutton to compete in the All Ireland Interschools Regatta over two days. Following a break during the Winter the focus switches to Team Racing in March and the School Team Racing Championships in Dun Laoghaire with the chance to qualify for the National Championships in Schull.

The highlight of the school sailing season is the St. Gerard's Regatta in Greystones in May. This half day event sees sailors from both the Junior and Senior schools compete against other schools from Wicklow and South Dublin in a fleet of up to 50 boats. The opportunity for great racing with the emphasis on fun both on and off the water has proved very popular and is a great way of rounding off the school year.

Any student interested in sailing for St. Gerard's should contact Mr Jolly.
